From the village of Orciatico we can either take the dirt track which leads to the wind farm on the mountain ridge, or the tarmac road which winds between the gently rolling hills to Montecatini Val di Cecina, where we can visit the former copper mine, and take a look inside some of the underground tunnels. After the visit, we will head downhill to the valley of the river Cecina, cycling to Casino di Terra, where a minibus will be waiting to take us back to the hotel.

Within its long city walls, the historic centre of Volterra hosts an array of churches, museums, ancient buildings and shops selling handmade products, which are well worth a closer look.
